ADVISORY

NMS Advisory Mission: Develop strong and more meaningful connections and relationships between staff members and students throughout the building. It is our belief, a belief supported by considerable volumes of research, that a school community with strong positive student-staff relationships is a school community that thrives in all the ways we want our students to thrive (academically, behaviorally, socially, etc…)

Format:  Advisory will be held in the form of an extended class period every week on Monday. Monday was chosen because it is the start of the week, but also because it is not a department testing day. The period will rotate every week. The advisory period will be 15 minutes at the beginning of the class period. 

Each month would have its own theme/focus. The schedule below also includes the periods advisory would rotate through each month. 

  • Sept - Mondays period 1,2,3 - get to know/kick off the school year
  • Oct - Mondays period 4,5 - Mid Quarter check-in 
  • Nov - Mondays period 6,7,8,9 - Gratitude
  • Dec - Mondays period 1,2,3,4 - Teamwork
  • Jan - Mondays period 5,6 - Cultural Awareness
  • Feb - Mondays period 7,8 - Midyear check-in
  • March - Mondays period 9,1,2,3,4 - Teamwork Part II
  • April - Mondays period 5,6 - Goal setting for the end of the year
  • May - Mondays period 7,8,9 - reflect and adapt
